The Sexual Power of Nature
By Judith Orloff, MD
THOUGH EVERYONE carries sexual energy, it's not just human-it's also present in nature. With this in mind, the energetic import of Tantra can be innovative used. Next time you go to the ocean or the woods, sit quietly; try to feel the exuberance of these places in your sexual chakras. Hear nature talking to you through energy.
I was first communicated to in this manner quite unexpectedly. It was on the north shore of Kauai, 1986. I'd gone there to attend a woman's workshop on spirituality. Before three days of silence and fasting, I walked through a tropical forest to the ocean as the sun set. While a light wind rippled though my short cotton dress, I rested my back on the trunk of a fragrant plumeria tree. Moist, soft air caressing my skin, I was mesmerized by how it made the leaves flutter; their lilting movements seemed to be gesturing to me. I began to feel sexually aroused. The wind: what was it doing? To my amazement, I sensed it pulsing waves of heat through the bark into my body, shooting from my spine to my scalp. I glued the slope of my back to the trunk, afraid if I moved or analyzed what was occurring, it would cease. For once, thank God, my mind cooperated. The erotic energy accelerated; my whole body burst into orgasm.
That twilight in Kauai introduced me to the ecstatic forces of nature. Over the years, it's become clear that the air element is my personal touchstone to nature's sensuality. Now, whenever I get even a glimpse of wind it makes me smile, brings out my sexuality. I know this by how my body reacts. I know this because, even though it may seem far out, I've given myself permission to listen. Often, I deliberately tune into the wind for a sensual refueling. I watch it, sense it, and let it enter my body. Wind has the quality of human touch, but more so. Prior to Kauai, I'd always depended on a man to ignite my erotic side. When I was single, I felt less feminine, almost invisible as a woman. Realizing that sexuality originates in myself, and in nature, has been life changing.
Sound improbable? Think of things that give you pleasure;Butter melting on fresh bread, fragrance of a rose, light of an evening star.We all recognize such palpable beauties, but, oddly, understate their effect. A marathoner I know would snort with derision if I suggested his daily miles - dawn breaking, breeze fresh in his face, tank top clinging to torso-gave him sensual expression! Why deny the miraculous? As I did, you can find which element-air,fire, water, or earth-you have the most erotic affinity for.
For instance, sit next to a roaring campfire-or by the fireplace at home. Take a few breaths. Lose yourself in the flames. Remain receptive sexually, focusing on your first and second chakras. Notice if the fire excites them. Are they vibrating? Are they warm, more alive even orgasmic? If so, then you'll know it's all right, nothing strange here just another sensual outlet to enjoy. Similarly, experience the other elements. Test out water: go skinny-dipping in the ocean or a swimming pool, just you and the water.
What do your chakras feel? Take note. Next, go on to earth. Lie naked on the grass, walk barefoot, hug a tree (the hippies were onto something). Soak up the energy the earth gives. Then, continue with the wind. Let it blow over you. Is your body stirred? Ultimately, the element that's yours is the one you'll have the strongest reaction to. You can rendezvous with it whenever you please. Never tell a soul unless you choose. Make it your special secret.
So, as you can see, energy has many applications to sexuality. Let yourself investigate beyond what I've discussed; map out virgin territory. Soon you'll be astonished to realize how much of the sexual world eluded you. Erotic opportunities utilizing energy present themselves. Ordinary vision is unequipped to take you on this adventure. Intuition can, will.
